(This story was an entry for Clue #8 in the 2013 Treasure Hunt -- see the collection for related stories and images! ) Spring was finally here and new cubs had been born. The chief-wolves, Moonmist and Cubsitter, had produced a new litter and four healthy pups were now playing outside for the first time. The elves were delighted, not only because of the sign of new life, but also because several of them were without a wolf-friend at the moment and hoped to find a new bond in this litter. Chicory and Moss had been the first to find a new bond, so only two cubs were left as Quick Fang returned to the wolf dens. She was determined to find a new wolf-friend in this litter; she never had to wait a long time for a new bond after an old one died. She even knew already which name she would give the cub; she only ever used four different ones. This wolf-friend would be called Howler, she already had decided. But it turned out differently... As she returned from the wolf dens with a small, fluffy bundle on the arm, she had already given up on the idea to call him "Howler". The little cub growled more than anything and definitely more than any other wolf-friend of hers before. So she had given up on her first idea of his name and had chosen another one of the four she used. This little pup would be called "Growler." He already lived up to the name just fine. | |||||
