2012 TREASURE HUNT CLUE #4: In measuring another elf, I was distracted by True Edge. Who am I? (Answer: Moss - RTH 2009 Calendar: January, by Karena Kliefoth) The measuring beads flowed smoothly through Moss's nimble fingers with a sound like the soft patter of flakes falling on the crusted snow outside. One, two, three...his hands slid across Blacksnake's back, pulling the line taut against his skin, following the curves of his shoulders. The winter's chill seemed to emanate from Blacksnake, creeping into Moss and making him shiver despite the protection of the craft den. Blacksnake's rigid stance as he waited for Moss to finish his work made the den seem colder still. Moss suspected only part of Blacksnake's demeanor came from his normal dislike of this part of a fitting. The other part must have come from what had happened on the hunt, something that Blacksnake had not been forthcoming about. He had shown up at the den disheveled and gruffly asked the tanner if he would be willing to repair his winter coat, but with one look Moss had known the garment was beyond saving. Luckily, he had been able to coax the fuming hunter into the den and gotten him to consent to the process of beginning a new coat, but since then all had been silence. Giving a mental shrug, Moss had turned his attention to his work, and had all but forgotten his living pattern until startled by a voice from the door. “There you are!” True Edge took in the scene, eyeing the tattered pile of clothing that had been Blacksnake's coat. “Going to be a whole new coat, is it?” He grinned wickedly. “Maybe next time you'll mind where you put your feet when someone warns you about a slick patch!” Still holding his pose for Moss, Blacksnake could only growl menacingly while True Edge's snicker echoed through the forest as he walked away. Moss could only shake his head and smile, knowing he would hear a good story soon. |
