Artist note: Dolfje Weerwolfje is created by Paul van Loon. http://www.dolfjeweerwolfje.nl (Dolfje the little werewolf.) I used to read a lot of books by Van Loon when I was a kid, horror stories for teens, but Dolfje was first written about years after I had the right age for it. It's meant for children ranging roughly from ages 6 to 10. Dolfje is a 7 year old who one full moon discovers he's a werewolf. He wasn't bitten, he turns out to be born into it. On one of his hikes he hears all of this from his grandpa, who I decided to draw as well. Grandpa is so old, he can decide when to go wolf and when to go human. He prefers the wolf. The books aren't meant to be scary like other werewolf stories, after all it's meant for really young kids. It's more about how difficult but also how fun it is to be different than others. I chose Newt to be Dolfje, mainly because Dolfje is the only white werewolf I ever heard of. But their history matches as well. Before Dolfje met his grandpa grandpa he had lost all his family, and came to live with the family of his best friend, Timmy. Timmy's dad likes "different" and the whole family helps to keep Dolfje's "condition" secret.
