I like that although this is a relatively short story with a lot of characters, each elf's unique personality comes through, as well as the difference between the older group of elves and the younger one. Crackle's comment of "we could all be killed" in particular cracks me up.

I really like the reason you came up with for the trip to unfold! Pretty clever to have the islands as second retreat/escape route.
I am glad for all the youngsters. This is going to be quite an adventure for them!

Oooh, this is so exciting! I love build-up and there's certainly plenty of that here! And a lot of good character-moments too - love getting to see more of Brightwood point of view and her thoughts on her tribe mates, now that she's had many years to "settled in".

It's an interesting gang we have interacting here. I really like the flavor of it. Otter and Crackle are near to hilarious and I love how Brightwood is so experienced feeling here, like a true elder as Kestrel's connection with Fadestar. Then there's Foxtail and Pathmark who fit in the middle. Wonderful character dimensions!
The environment from the beach to the sea and onto the island beautifully unfolds before us. A true gem to read! Thanks for all the hard work, it's just lovely.

I don't know what I'm more in love with - the beautiful description of the scenery, especially the ocean and the nightsky, or the playful interactions of the characters. I love how Brightwood is fitting in here, especially the way she handles the adolescents when they spot the island! Some of the little touches - the way Foxtail throws the mud at Otter, the way Otter is thrilled about Fadestar's possible fears... it just brings the whole situation to life. Lovely work! I can't wait to read the next part!
