I love explorations of how the elves' magic work! The description of how it feels to be exhausted from gliding was great - I could relate to it, which of course not exactly picture it, which fits very well with the whole being-human-and-not-having-magic situation I'm in. Wonderful interaction between Fadestar and Kestrel, and I love how their relationship to their mother got included as well. Windburn's personality outside of being "the chief" was also nicely explored in the last scene - love to get glimpses of him being not-chief, him being so focused on his role most of the time!

This is a brilliant idea for giving our elves a reason to actually GO to the island. I just like the idea of an (almost established) glider tradition. I am sure after Fadestar's flight there and the aftermath it will definitely become a tradition for future gliders.
It was also interesting to learn how gliding might feel. How the exhaustion manifests and how the sparkling magical talent needs practice to develop.

This was really interesting to read! I really enjoy the Kestrel and Fadestar interactions. It's a change to think about training magic, and I like that this aspect is included, rather than Fadestar simply knowing what to do and having access to all her total strength immediately. The mentions of Butterfly and Stormdancer really bring a sense of history to this, and I love the set-up for the events to come!

It looks like flying to the islands is a glider's rite of passage! I love it! Kind of like the Very Long Walk! But it's not intentional, it's just at some point in their lifetime, every glider has done it. And FadeStar used to be, well, weak and "fade-y". For her in particular it will be coming into her Strength!
