Funny and cute! I love how Willow and Rainpace got caught up in one-upping each other that they forget what Newt actually asked for. And good of Newt to be practical and just go to Suddendusk when his wishes were being ignored. In short, humorous and a great look at interaction between tribe mates!

Yes, Newt's maturity here is a great contrast with the way Willow and Rainpace get carried away by the "contest". It's really great to see the two of them fall back into their easy (but competitive) old friendship, after what seems like both of them playing different tribal roles for a while now. I really liked, too, that Newt isn't thrown off by their failure to listen to him -- he just takes it in stride, and then takes steps to gain the outcome he wants by other means. I definitely felt like we were seeing him taking steps towards being a grown-up, too.

Thanks everyone and thanks Peggy and Heidi for helping me to realize this story! I'd not be able to make it this entertaining myself and I love all the banter you added between Willow and Rainpace.

As of who won the bet? My guess is Moonwing is the winner. Lots of mice and he'd not to do a thing!

I really love all the cameos in this - it weaves such a rich look at day to day life in the holt. Especially the preservers! And it's wonderful to see Willow and Rainpace together again - even if they completely overwhelm Newt's request in order to recreate some of their 'old' dynamics (assuming that the competition ever paused!) Newt's solution is perfectly Newt, and I think the team of Suddendusk and Newt will be really interesting to see in the future. I wonder if Newt's emotional insightfulness will be set off by some 'mechanical' insights as well. The little details, like the way Greenweave and Cloudfern have helped make a baby owl basket, are really precious. Great read! I love stories that show both plot and character development! :D

It's great to see some things never change!! Rainpace may be a father now, and Willow a Healer, but they will always be betters and challengers ~ a carryover from the pranking days?? Like how Newt is the calm minded one and wisely sought out help from an elder.

Heehee, how cool! I liked reading about the first time with Moonwing. And I really had to laugh about Rainpace and Willow, who were completely sucked up by the dare. I do wonder who in the end won the dare, though. And good for Newt, finding another solution alltogether AND having more mice for Moonwing anyway XD

This was so much fun to read!! I enjoyed the look at everyday Holt life, with batters and trading, as well as the friendly, runaway competition between Rainpace and Willow. The fact that Newt chose to ask Suddendusk for help was fantastic! It sent Newt to the person most likely to provide exactly what he was looking for - it's a pairing we don't see much of, but I could imagine would be fun to observe.
