This fic just felt so tense... as if waiting for a storm to break during a hot humid day. The anticipation was tough - waiting for them to say, or not say what needed to be spoken (or not) between them. I love how they know one another, and how Cloudfern recognizes that his own grief doesn't give him direct insight into Blacksnake's. I also like how Blacksnake is *there* for Cloudfern. So many fronts to like it on.

This was a great fic -- and I would SOOOO love to see more of these two interacting the future! (Or in the past -- hey, I'd love me some more backdated fics...)

I find them soooo interesting, these glimpses into the past of our elves. Man, they had to endure loses!! And sometimes so close together. Good, that there was a light at the end of the tunnel, with Cloudfern recognizing Starskimmer shortly after Raven's death.
It is nice to see this unusal pairing together: CF and Blacksnake. IMO you nailed Blacksnake here. His way to express (or not express) his worries and all. Great job!

It's easy to forget just how much loss that Cloudfern has seen over his life. This is a really clear glimpse at a past relationship we haven't always seen too much of. Blacksnake really feels caring here, and it's great to see the protective side of his personality come across with subtle kindness. I really like the companionship that passes between them. The loss feels real, and looming, but they're both still moving ahead. It's almost comforting to read this, as odd as that might be, to see people moving forward without drama. It's interesting how Cloudfern can sort of speak and get at the words that Blacksnake wants to hear - it really shows how close they are without being in-your-face obvious about it. Very gripping read!

I like Blacksnake here. He doesn't say much but there clearly is something about him that's very characteristic for him. He reminds me on my dad. Silently taking care of you and worrying about you so you might miss it if you don't pay attention.
It's also nice to see Cloudfern untangling his headspace. The lad is so used to loosing people now ... either temporary or permanently. I also like all the subtle hints on what Cloudfern and Blacksnake share on experiance and what not. Like having a soul-brother and some other neat little things.

Sweet nice read.

Thank you so much for this, Sofia! I really love the interaction here. You really nailed Blacksnake's characterization, and hit a great balance between him being supportive and "kind", while also being his usual self, a bit challenging and domineering. I really like the relationship that this hints at between these two.
