This really shows Newt's personality: Even as a child he KNEW how time consuming making the sun-oil was! We also see how he is still new to this Rivertwine Holt because he is still so unsure of even his foster parents. Seeing how doting everyone is would make anyone's heart lighter!

Awwww. This is so sweet. I love that Newt was unsure about Cloudfern, and how Greenweave encouraged him to reach out to him. :) Beautifully written, and so great to see some of Newt's extended family working together to help him.

It is so sweet how Newt is waiting for his new foster father... albeit he is still unsure how to deal with him. It reminds me a lot of a child waiting for its father to come home from work.

Yeah, I really enjoyed here the sense of community this gives us -- of the entire extended family putting their heads together to help Newt. It's a great way to underline how taking care of a child isn't just one couple's task, but a community effort. And since we've seen Newt with Greenweave so often (and the stories state that he found it harder to get close to Cloudfern), I really liked that this story focused on how much Newt wanted to make a connection with Cloudfern, but was shy about it.

Thanks so much for this one Sofia and sorry I'm so late with commenting.
This was a nice little look into the early time Newt bounded with this foster family. There are so many nice touches here that warmed my heart. For one I really like how gentle and reassuring Greenweave is with Newt's insecurity about how to act around Cloudfern. It's funny how much Newt's behavior here reminds me of a kid with a working dad being out for long stretches of time. Wondering what they do and waiting for them to get home. Not wanting to go to bed until they come, etc.
I also very much like how you depicted Newt as a child. It all seems very real to me. The thought, the gestures... It's clear he's still trying to figure things out but all in all has settled.
One of my favorite images is somehow the family effort of Starskimmer, Beetle and Cloudfern to come up with something to help Newt realizing a dream of his. It's a nice and fuzzy warm image and has this air of a family sharing something beyond blood relation.

Thanks again :)
