What a wonderfully dramatic way to discover one's magic! Evervale's panic is perfectly understandable in such a situation and I adore how you described how she sensed the trees and plants around her. I can just imagine how the conversation between her and Cloudfern when she explained what had happened.

Wow, your discription of the magic unfolding in Evervale is fabulous! I was captured by the flow of his story. It also never occured to me that it could be scary to discover such powerful magic... but hell, it MUST be!

I love this. It's short but tells us everything we need to know. In it's simplicity it's a very unique story of how to discover once magic! As Holly said. I like the balance of the drama here. More e personal shock (I'd have panicked much more. I hate being stuck!)
But I also just like all the other hints telling us that plant-shaping means more then just form wood and plant live as you please but also FEEL them a bit more closely.
I really liked seeing something written about Evervale as well. I feel we more often see her than read about her :)
Wonderful story.

How beautifully written. I especially enjoyed the description of Evervale's imagination detailing what she could do with her powers - and wonder how strong she really is.

I'm so glad to see this moment at last! I love how the manifestation of her powers was, in a way, kind of alarming... but not TOO alarming, and that Evervale got into harmony with it even though she hasn't yet figured out how to control it. Just enough drama, but not so much that it doesn't also work as an intimate discovery.

I guess it never occurred to me that we had been missing an "Evervale comes into her powers" story, until now. What an absolutely cool idea how she discovers it. The way her perception of the magic was described was very poignant. She seems more powerful as a plantshaper than I would have guessed, actually. Having your eyes opened to that range of magic potential has got to be a pretty heady experience.

I love the view of plantshaping you gave us here, and how you described Evervales feelings and thoughts when she discovered her plantshaping abilities and the powers it will bring with it. I am looking forward to read some more stories about Evervale. It was great to see her conflict between joy and fear.

Beautifully written, Ellen! What a surreal, dreamlike sequence - I loved the description of the enchantment Evervale felt. And how close fascination and terror lay for her once she realised what that meant! What a way to discover your powers! Great to have that bit of backstory filled in for our sweet plantshaper :). (No doubt Crackle will not have had her hear the end of it after Cloudfern got her out of that tree!)

Your writing really made me feel as entranced with the trees as Evervale! I really love the description of the 'shocks' of picking the herbs earlier, and you set the scene so dreamily after that. It's a great look at how Evervale found her powers - and quite the funny scene to imagine too! :)

Cute short sweet story. New beginning to a plant-shapers powers. You really got into her head. Got into the magic of being fascinated by the trees life force. Well done!
