Interesting look at how the new routines affect the elves! And it's also interesting to see Pathmark's relationships continue to develop. Foxtail showing up all tipsy and flirty was both amusing and cute, though the fact that Pathmark, after being away so long, was pretty much fine with tagging along with her immediately, speaks volumes.

This is a great mix of thoughtful and playful. I do wonder a bit, why Pathmark was heading home alone without Farscout, although I suppose they could have split up inside the thornwall.

I think I feel as confused and amused as Pathmark when it comes to Foxtail's actions here. You described their touches really well, and made it so easy to picture the interplay between these two. I enjoyed this!

This was very fun, and I admit, I certainly wasn't expecting it to be Foxtail, but it was fitting. I love that he is an expert tracker, but not good at dissembling things. I also appreciated the use of parallels (overbalancing being one). this story made me smile. :)

Angie, sorry for commenting that late! Thought I did this when the story was new !
Thank you for that! I really enjoyed reading the story, and especially something so sweet about Foxtail and Pathmark...the view in his head is really a good one and how he compared himself to Farscout and seeing the differences. Love the title!!

So precious and sweet! A great look into Pathmark's head, and I love the atmosphere in this, the little details and the way you describe Pathmark's and Foxtail's physical interaction. Knowing him, it really made me smile to think of him getting such a warm, eager welcome. Just a very effective feel-good story, overall.

(I also caught on when Pathmark comments on Foxtail being quiet - a hint of deeper currents there? They've both gone through some changes in their lives. Makes you think.)

I can only agree with the others, I really liked how Pathmark was considering why he was taking on the role of a scout. He's less comfortable with it than Farscout who's a loner by nature but it's a job that needs doing, and I admire him for taking it on!

The second part was just very cute and fun - I love the interaction, and it's just so nice to see the young elves together, being so playful and obviously comfortable around each other. Very lovely!

I kind of feel for Pathmark here, how he's comparing himself to Farscout when it comes to this duty of long-range scouting. I think it's a good contrast to draw, because really -- most elves are not going to be like Farscout, who was peculiarly suited to the loneliness of that duty. Most elves are like Pathmark, craving the company of their tribemates and lovers -- but the tribe still needs them to go out there anyway, because we need more elves than just Farscout on that duty.

I like how Foxtail shows up to brighten Pathmark's return. For me, that makes it almost more effective than him meeting up with one of his lovemates. It emphasizes the wider social bonds in the tribe -- as does his decision to take the opportunity presented, and go with her in the end.

Ahhh I enjoy seeing Pathmark interacting with his tribe and in his role as scout. I really liked the first part where he ponders and kinda reasons why he became a scout in the first place and what's the ups and downs for him.
It makes me curious how hard it had been for him to convince Farscout and how their relationship is now and was in the time Pathmark attempted to become his apprentice.

And the second part is so nice and playful. Foxtail truly is a .. well fox ... here. How could Pathmark say 'no' here? And I doubt his lovemates will mind terribly ;)

I also liked that you hinted at the aftermath of the whole FO thing and how subtle the changes for an elf can be yet it's a lasting impact they carried away from it.

Nice stuff! I'm always curious about what you come up with :)
