What a beginning! Made me very curious to see what had Lodestone so off balance and brusk. And the build-up didnt' disappoint! I'm now instead very curious about what made Quill start favoring Pigment over Lodestone, seeing as Lodestone has been her second for a long while (from what I can tell at least). That rivalry looks to be coming to a head and I can't wait to see who - if either of them - comes out on top!

Reading about the trolls makes me worry for the poor elves that will meet them some day. What a difference in the two cultures.

Poor Lodestone... to be double crossed so out of the blue --> but I really feel for poor Facet.

I really feel for Lodestone in this story! Especially for how completely flat-footed he is caught by the turn of events. I also like the glimpse of personality it gives us, to see him turning to playing an instrument in order to calm himself and get his thoughts in order. Paradoxically, it emphasizes his disquiet, I think -- more than if he'd spent that time trashing the room.

Ooh. I just love reading your work in this more sophisticated society! I just love the image/imagined sound of Lodestone's spike-fiddle (cello?). Such a great musical touch that made me happy, despite all the drama involved here! Powerful emotions of disappointment here - all handled really well and realistically.

The lives and concerns of the trolls are just SO completely different from the elves! It makes for an interesting and exciting change of pace! I really enjoyed the intra-House politics going on here.

Ohhhh so much to like here. This was great, Heidi. It's a great character piece for Loadstone and a nice look, once again into the workings of Underhaven.
The story flows so natrually and it was very intense towards the end. The mood is perfect for such a play of intrigue and I loved all the little things that showed the meaning of power and what it can be for a troll - especially one so old as Loadstone. The example with the young troll was very telling in this regard.
The idea of having your life's work crumbling down is something I can identify with somehow. And I know the feeling of being all prepared for one thing just to have everything turn out differently in the end.

Love it! Keep em comming (Even if I do miss Willow popping up a bit as well ;) )
