Clever use of the wolves' relationships to the pack to show off Pathmark and Windburn's own positions as well as attitude towards power struggles and what they want out of life. Though it was mostly Pathmark confessing his thoughts, what comments Windburn made were very telling.

That's an interesting story. I never thought much about how individual Elves think about the places of their bond-wolves in the pack. And you chose an interesting duo. I can see that Pathmark is not happy with Moonmist being Alpha, he has these traits not in himself. And his conversation with Windburn (who is the Chief of the Holt) was interesting. I can understand his sadness, that Moonmist will never going back to the lower ranks of the pack but on the other side he let her be what she is and vice versa. An interesting look at the dynamics in the pack and between the wolves and their riders!

It's got to be so hard for the elves to bond so deeply with their wolves. Only to have their friends fall to inevitable death, from whatever the cause. Pathmark and Windburn can already predict their particular wolves future. Bittersweet!!

Man, wolf pack dynamics, will always find the startling and strange. I really like to see the contrast between Pathmark and Moonmist and how he admits to himself that he is low ranked and would prefer his wolf to be, too. He has just the gentlest heart.

Seeing Windburn and Pathmark together felt like an unusual pairing at first, but it really seems to fit together so naturally. It's great to see these two share a reflective moment over their strong-willed wolf-bonds. It's really bittersweet, although realistic for the wolves.

Just I said before, I really enjoyed reading something about Windburn and Pathmark and their friendship.
I had to giggle too, when Windburn told him, that his little pub chose him and insisted to be his new wolffriend.
I love how your idea comes out with those parallels Lyn mentioned before. And its so sweet how Pathmark just told his chief: I am a low-wolf myself :) and Windburn told him that a chief need a friend like him.

I like the parallels here that Windburn points out: that those in authority need friends who aren't competing... I love Pathmark's honesty - and how this story really highlights some of the downside to having an ambitious wolf-friend

I just heart the interaction between Pathmark and Windburn here. Pathmark is still sweet but I like seeing this side of him. To imagine an aggressive alpha female with him was kinda surprising but I think this story dose a nice job showing how it works and what it means to Pathmark.
It also got a giggle out of me to imagine Windburn all miffed about getting a cub.
