Well, the "cleaning" of the grouse was described pretty... vividly. Brrrr! ;)
I really enjoyed this look into Newt's and Farscout's relationship. And to get a glimpse of Baby-Copper was sweet, too.

Being reminded of the history between Newt and Farscout was wonderful! Farscout really seems to get Newt and this exchange was a great look into how they interact, as well as a look at how Newt is growing. It was also very well researched - I had no idea that some birds could be skinned like that!

It's great how at the end, we see Newt excelling at another sort of "hunting", underscoring how there are many ways to contribute, and he has his own. It's easy to sense how torn he is, wanting to be good at things the way his peers are, but also valuing the respect he gets from Farscout. Hopefully the latter is enough to make up for him sometimes feeling like he's at the tail-end of the pack of his agemates.

One big plus by joining your Team Whit was to know I could hope to get some stories for my boy. And yay it worked out!

I really like this. First of all I really like to see Farscout and Newt interact. After all Farscout WAS his hero and here I can see again and again why.
Its wonderfully written and I just love little Copper here,, all quite and wide eyed. The moment Newt gives her something new to munch on I just went D'aw..
It's great to see Newt finding his comfort zone here. I see this as kind of the first hints to what he would grow into and I love that Farscout has this knowing air around him and in his silent way supports his talents and let it come natural to him.

Beautifully written! I can't say enough how this made me smile! Farscout is a great teacher for those who are willing to learn (and who tolerate silence). I like Newt's acceptance and seeming growth in self-esteem.
