It is bittersweet that Dreamflight is so unused to people worrying about her that she was all "What are YOU doing here??" It is difficult to resent a cub like Newt, I think she would have warmed up to him, accident or no. The fall did force it to happen sooner!!

What I really liked with this story is that even though Dreamflight is clearly trying to get better, it's a slow process for her, and that she herself is really the person most likely to sabotage herself, with self-doubt. That rings very true. She's really fallen into bad habits when it comes to socializing with others, and it's hard to break habits like that when they become patterns and routines. But Newt, with his sunny innocence, really makes for a great foil for her. I just loved the last part, where he comes to check up on her, even at the risk of a scolding from his "fathers". And it's poignant that Dreamflight is unused to expecting that someone would worry for her (whether that's true in reality or not, you can sense the emotional truth of it for her).

Here's to breaking old, bad patterns, and establishing new ones. :)

I like how you showed Dreamflight's inner conflict as stemming form her own grief, instead of any actual dislike for Newt. The back and forth between her enjoying Newt's company and wanting to get away from him at the beginning felt very realistic and fitting with her personal history and the ending was so sweet and cathartic!

Melanie, it is always a pleasure to write with you! Thank YOU for your perseverance with it and with me. I'm glad this development in their relationship is finally written :)

From the other comments I see that this story was something of a struggle to get written? Well, it was WELL worth the struggle! ;) It's really great, and very well-written. Now that I think about it specifically, it was absolutely great how seamlessly the *whole thing* was not only from Dreamflight's perspective, but from a very intimate, introspective POV for her. It didn't detract in any way from the action of the piece, though! And poor Newt crying for his mother is enough to make ME start sobbing... It's a rocky road, but it looks like there's sunshine at the end of it for these two! ^_^

Oh, finally! I realized I really waited to get to know more about how Dreamflight finally overcame her resentments. You filled that gap, and You did very well. Dreamflight is such a controverse character and interesting because of this. Her inner battle was so realistic it really moved me to read about it.

I know this story was a hard fight for you both but the result is great :)! I really liked seeing more about the relationship between Dreamflight and Newt, and it's a great moment for the two. It might be a bit sad that it needed an accident for Dreamflight to come to that realization but at least now they can move on.

I also liked the details you included about the bird-watching. Sparrows are so cute ^^.

Lyn, THANK you so much for being so patient with me on this and Thanks so much for helping me with this. I so often stood back and reconsidered the story and events (I made up myself) and you were a real angel! Thanks so much.
