What a balance for the Wolfriders! On one hand they have to take risks in their day to day life i.e. hunting. But because they don't reproduce often they have to be extra careful! It's not just *them* it's the future!

I've read this story so many times, and I can't believe I've never commented on it. I found it heartbreaking, that poor wolf :( And poor Dawn, wanting to measure up with the older elves. I was most impressed by Feverease's speech to each and every one of the youngsters, and that she addressed them personally.

This story was great! I loved the high energy you started with and how serious it got in the second half. I can only imagine what guilt Knifemaker and Firecat felt.
It really brought to mind the old saying, 'Its all fun and games until somebody gets hurt'. It was a really great lesson for these elves to learn, its unfortunate that it cost a wolf its life though.

I was holding my breath the entire first half, knowing such a game couldn't end well! Dawn entering into the picture was a horrible surprise (in a good way, story-wise of course!) and her poor wolf-friend... Sad, but gripping!

Oooh... what a dangerous game they played! I really like the use of the healer here, and to see more than just the gentle side, but the fierce and protective side as well.

2015 comment: Firecat "dies" 3 years after this incident... I can well imagine this foolishly reckless lass deciding she's strong enough a swimmer to SWIM to the island... Will be interesting to see. An this fic gives some direction for whoever will become her player.

I found it interesting that Firecat died so young, and it made me wonder why? So I thought it would be interesting if she was something of a reckless type. And with Knifemaker being the assignment, I figured 'why not her, too?' :) I'm glad you guys enjoyed the story, I enjoyed writing it!
Oh and I agree, I could've;0 made the lead two characters a bit clearer, but oh well!

It's always a blast to see our ancestor characters in action, and even MORE fun to see them here as barely more than children, when mostly I know I tend to think of them as stuck at the age of their initial character portrait. Good work!

Love this look at the far-past ancestors! It really imparts some much-needed characterization to some of them, especially Knifemaker, whom I've found to be something of a cipher before this. I love the playful and reckless side you've given her, even though by the tribe's standards she's an "elder".

Heartbreaking! I really like this piece, I think you really manage to bring a different age completely to life here. It's all very emotional, and I could really feel all the different emotions you wove through it, from the playful courage, to fear, and disbelief and despair, to the guilt at the end. Lovely interplay, and just a huge range... it really showcases your storytelling abilities!

Oh this is nice! I kinda had to thing of the first story uploaded on the side which had elves breaking in as well. Somehow it did not get used afterwards even if it's such n easy trap and such a danger.
It's great to see this explored again.
I really liked the build up here. You can see how young elves would do such a thing to test themselves and prove how barve they are. I mean you see this attitude till today (actually we have a huge problem with this each year around here. People recklessly endangering themselves and others when the lakes are frozen over, which makes me relate to this story all the more.)

Poor Dawn through :( This was well written and I think it came off as very realistic :)

I enjoyed reading more about Feverease. She is such an interesting character, which your story telling at the end even enhanced.
But I must admit I did not get which two characters you have been assigned to. Feverease? Knifemaker? Firecat? Or even Dawn?

This was very exciting! I loved the feeling of easy excitement in the beginning, and the action turning serious was great, too. Poor little Dawn! And I really enjoyed the lecture by Feverease in the end because it was so interesting to see her different speech pattern - great work on that!
