I loved the middle part, where the ritual was all about Fadestar, but then later the Preserver especially remembered Newt, plastering his cocoon in color with its body! ... And I don't envy Dreamflight! Rose thorns in her bed forever!!

Sad to think that Newt had no agemates.
I like the story, but could not identify the elves by their Preserver names; so it lost me.

The contrast of the presevers and their memory, with the wolfriders and The Now was fascinating to read about. You really made the preservers seem intelligent and made it clear they have their own culture and values, parallel to the elves.

Hey, Melanie -- you were the one who thought of the story. I just filled in the words. ;)

My favorite part of writing this was just the image of Muckabout hunting mice. There's got to be a lot of vermin to hunt in keeping safe the wrapstuff in the storage dens (and the cocoons, in their time)!

I, too, really loved that this focused on the Preservers' function of memory, and how unchanging they are even when the elves' lives change around them. I also particularly liked the scene in the middle, which again showed the Preservers as their own little indepdent social clique, rather than just as decorative figures.

This is beautiful. I love Muckabout's character now! We almost need a list for NPC preserver characters and linked stories! :) They have so much personality. I really like that Muckabout was thinking of pranks for Dreamflight... poor thing. W/ a preserver's memory, she might be a target for a long time to come!

First of all I want to say, Whitney did all the writing here and I am a bit confused why I am listed as writer here ^^ Really all the credit for this belongs to Whitney :)

On that note. Thank you so much for writing this story Whitney. I know you have a tight time schedule.

As for the story. I really like how this turned out. It's really cute how Muckabout deals with Newt and I really liked the part in the middle. I agree it was great to see the preservers interact while we see out of there eyes how the elves react on the wrapping. Muckabout hugging the brier was really touching.

The end was just heartwarming. I like how he could pick up their old game so easy. It really makes me want to see more interaction between Newt and Muckabout and it makes me curious about what the Preserver meant by his last statement ^^

Aww, I loved this! It's so nice to see that Newt had a friend in Muckabout growing up and that the Preserver still remembers him and is his friend all those years later. Loved the mouse hunt, so cute!

The middle part was especially powerful, and it showcased some other nice things we don't see too often, like the interaction between the Preservers, creating a nice contrast between the different ways to remember of Preservers and elves. As Snowfall's player, I also liked the glimpse at the conflict between her and Quickfang (which I really should write about more myself).

And the end was just touching - and made me also chuckle a bit with the last line. Poor Dreamflight!

Whaaat? There is no comment here yet? Fine, I'll do the honor. :P

The story is amazing. I love how both of you tackled the preserver talk and the interaction they have between themselves. And even in the scene where they were the main point to us as readers, you snuck in some conflict between Quick Fang and her other tribes.

It really got to me when Muckabout dipped itself into the paint and hugged the bier.

In one way, it really does make sense that preservers miss the missing highthings. After all, Petalwing did in in OQ, but later I've kinda just looked upon them as some characters see them; flying pests with claws and child like voices. When they are preservers... in every sense of the word.

My favorite line was this one; "I hear scritchedy-scratchedy claws!" I can so see little Newt pouncing because he hears the sound. :D

A marvelous job, you two.
