You really get a sense of how long the preservers live with this story. Its really interesting to see them live so long. It was a really well thought out story. I loved that we went through one elf's entire life, and the connection they had. It had its light-hearted moments that I loved, but was still serious when it needed to be. Great story.

Seeing life from a preserver's POV over such a long timespan was a rare treat! It's great to get to know their very different, but still clever way of thinking. Simple certainly doesn't have to mean stupid and you showed that here clearly with Foamspray's ability to adjust its way of thinking to the elves', as well as in its reasoning and observing.

I always love to see ancestor works! I enjoy history and I also like to see figures from the past "fleshed out" as it were!

Thanks for all the lovely comments! ^_^ I actually had this story idea in mind for a while before the contest pushex me to write it. I think the hardest part was thinking up those Preserver names for the ancestors who didn't have them yet -- but I have to thank Granny for the title character, Gentle-Smile Highthing name. :) I just showed her his CIS portrait and she had it!

This was so well-written. I enjoyed the preserver POV and appreciated how you wrote it so we knew *who* was being observed. It was also neat to get to know Beartooth better!

I really enjoyed the structure of this, the way it dips into an elf's life here and there. And I thought that Foamspray's POV was really well done -- not just when it spoke, but the way the narrative reflected the way the Preservers speak. Despite all of the unfamiliar Preserver-names, I thought it was easy to follow, too. Really enjoyable.

Very clever use of bug-POV here. I love how the narration was entirely in the form of Preserver-names, but with the elves namechecking each other in dialog so the reader can follow who is who.

Wow, amazing! I loved how it all seemed so logical to Foamspray, while I really had to focus on who was who and what exactly happened. Great job! :D

That was very interesting to follow. Love to see the life of an elf told through a Preserver's eye. It's also interesting which scenes you picked and how you tied them together with the tagline in the date. That was a neat idea.
Also just love to see a story about our ancestors and their early life. And wow Beartooth did life through some chiefs. Not many of the elves were that lucky.
Very well written and it really like the arc of Beartooth life here and how the circle seems to start again with a new born elf after his death.

Aww, that was cute! I loved seeing Beartooth's life recounted through Foamspray's eyes who obviously had chosen him as its favourite Highthing of that time. You did a good job with the Preserver speech, too! I would love to see more of that ^^.
