Oh, the little boy grows up. Loved how Longbow handled the situation.

What a wonderful little slice of Newt's life! His seems to be a tale of growing up (which makes a lot of sense as that is what he's doing) and the fact that he's full of hesitation about being older and doing "grown up things" makes it all the more interesting to read about.

My favorite part about this is definitely how gentle and encouraging Longshot is, and how willing he is to express his interest, but totally let Newt put a limit on what's going to happen.

I think that this is a really tricky time in the lives of the young elves, especially for those who aren't on the more confident, aggressive side, and it's a delicate matter that all of the adults have to be ready to help the youngster navigate. Longshot handled this really well. :) I'll be interested to see if anything DOES come of it later, though...

Oh man. This was awesome. Everything from the little details - the slaptail's expression, Otter and Crackle's playful teasing in the background - to the big overarching feelings - the gentle way Longshot appreciates Newt's kindness, Newt's selflessness, the developing feelings. Wow. You really managed to give it a tense, heavy build up between the two of them - definitely thought things would turn out slightly differently, but the ending you wrote is just perfect. Looking forward to seeing more of these two!

Though this was primarily about Newt, I really liked seeing this side of Longshot. He really is observant, sensitive, caring, and wise. His openness and willingness is great, but his understanding is refreshing comnpared to what we know of some people IRL. Thank you for this!

Reading this, I almost couldn't help but know where it was leading, you did a great job of putting in subtle hints that, I think, really puts the reader on the same level with Newt, wondering what these little touches mean, and if he's really ready. That standing on the edge and wondering if you have the guts to jump feeling. I wish we all lived in a world where it was okay to say "no", and that would be answered with "OK, when you're ready." Gotta love Longshot's gentleness here.

Thanks so much for finishing this Amy :) I am really glad you did and I am too curious about Longshot and Newt now.

I also really liked how you handled his bow skills here. His limits are just plain to see and he knows it. The atmosphere between the youngsters during the lesson was also very entertaining. I can see why Newt doesn't want to miss out on the fun.

Also really, really liked to see the ease of the friendship between Longshot and Newt here and how it sudenly turnd in this moment. I told you that I actually blushed reading it, but the atmosphere in that scene in my opinion was really heavy without going to far.

Poor Newt. Growing up IS confusing ^^

I really like how realistic Newt is - you don't get the feeling here he's downplaying his shooting skills to be modest or out of pessimism but because he knows what he can and can't do. And I agree with Longshot, he always seems to be putting the needs and wants of others above his own, maybe sometimes too much. Good that Longshot found something for him to do without endangering his skin! I liked the feeling of easy friendship between them. And the end - whoo, growing up sure is confusing, eh, Newt? It made me curious if this will develop further - that would be nice to see :).
