There's definitely a sense of a chill in the air for this piece - both coldly scientific and the interpersonal relationships. Such an eerie setting, and a great introduction to Trickleclaw, who's just wonderful here with the noise-making!

Man oh man I love learning more about the RTH trolls! I really should get caught up on what's being discussed on the forum about them. This story really fueled my interest for them - to see the inner conflicts among them as well as their deep fear of elves and finding out what they'd managed to keep prisoner was fascinating!

Fantastic story! I love how you picked up on pieces of elf history -- those deaths that we always knew happened because of the troll tunnels -- and gave us a look at it from the other side! I appreciate not only that there's fear in the trolls (due to their particular take on what that shared history means), but also this rational drive to investigate and understand. The social currents woven throughout are just icing on the cake, further adding to the complexity. And what a great venue for the introduction of Trickleclaw and the revelation that the trolls have a captive Preserver! Very dramatic!

Oh, how wonderful, you combined Trolls and Preservers! I had so much fun reading, because you put so much information about trolls society into it without overloading.
Loved the character interaction and you definitely made me curious about the trolls in general.

EDIT: Just some small thing. At the beginning they talk about only one corpse... but then the Preserver reacts on the bodies. Is the plural intentional? Hinting at some mysterious background stories? More elves??? (Or did I just miss something?)

So much to love here!
There are so many things that caught my attention, like the exalted phrasing the members of the house of Scholars uses. That very own overly polite way that just makes it sound like an insult to everyone else. Loved that against the more blunt way of the way the members of the Military department.
This gave me this CIS versus FBI feel. Great. Just great.

It did give me the chill at parts. The way it ties into the death of Ice and the way they size and look at her is indeed a little creepy.

Yet I love it and I also love how the handling of Tickleclaw reminds me on a eagle and it's trainer here. The conflict between the houses was so great to see played out. Yes they are different and I love the trolls for that!

I have to agree that this story gave me the creeps as well. The trolls are just so different in their behaviors and their lives then the elves are. Though I'm happy to see a little look at the Troll's lives. I also really wish they wouldn't keep Trickleclaw all caged up. :(

This story gave me the creeps. Trolls live so different lives. Fascinating to get a glimpse into their society. I just wish Trickleclaw would be set free to live with the elves.

Wow, this was fascinating! It's incredible how different the trolls are from our elves, and I loved the description of the relationships between the different troll houses - all those rivalries and politics! And so great to see more about their opinion of the elves, even though that doesn't herald happy reunions if they meet. Can't wait to see more!

This is just a wicked story, on so many levels! Starting the scene off with an autopsy of Ice's remains is just brilliant -- and the dialogue between the characters in the room is just as entertaining as it is educational. You gave me real X-Files chills here from the start, and sustained them all the way through the ending. Hats off to you, now I'm really really eager to see more!

I just wanted to point out that this story is primarily Chris' - I helped out on some of the setting and detail work.

I really like your creative look into the trolls' past, Chris. The sense of ever-present danger from something unseen or unknown from the trolls' discovery is palpable here. Great stuff!
