It's so great that a few elves do take herbalism seriously. Especially because Willow is mortal and has to live her own life LOL! I liked the VERY real touch of having to break into Cloudfern's medicine den! And the added touch of the broken axe! And the mention of Goldspice I assume taking up the torch for a few days!!

I love that this story shows Newt coming into his own! It's a great glimpse of one of the roles that he will play in the tribe -- and also a really nice look at why the tribe still needs people with his and Cloudfern's and Starskimmer's skillset. Mostly, it's really nice to see Newt blossoming into someone confident in what he's doing; far from the troubled child who first came out of wrapstuff!

Awww, little Newt is all grown up, making important decisions and tending to the chief! (Sorry, as the player of one of his adopted fathers, I can't help but think of him as a small cub, always). Always interesting to see tribe members interacting with the chief!

I'm so ashamed. I really should have commented on this way earlier. never the less I am doing it now.

I really have to say the more I read this story, the more I enjoy it. I like how it unfolds so many things in such a short scene.
I like how Newt earns some respect from Windburn here by being who he is and how he grows out of being the "lost in time" orphan.
Love the details of the herbal recipes just as much. With a healer around and thinking in modern medics I sometimes forget how useful nature itself is by providing those things (and admitting that it's basically the base of all healing craft)

I too love the picture of Newt and Greenweave breaking into the crafting den with an ax.I'd seriously love to see that scene where Newt has to admit he broke it in the process.

I'm really proud on my little boy here for taking up his craft and how it shows that by just a few unlucky circumstances about the whereabouts of Willow, it's still needed even with a healer around.

I really liked this story - the detail really evokes a great atmosphere and the characters have very clear personalities - it's great to see events like this, it makes the characters very real-when you have to worry about them getting sick!

Melanie asked for a story showing Newt's progress as a herbal-healer, and bingo! I thought of her wonderful Newt/Windburn art, and then this fic just wrote itself in less than two hours. I'm always grateful for instant inspiration when it strikes, and I love that Newt is taking up a craft that offhandedly it might look as if the elves don't need any longer... but in truth, need just as much as ever.

Yay! Good job Newt! He's proved to be a great asset to the tribe with this single action, saving their Chief from illness. Thats no small task for anyone let alone someone who is still learning everything from Cloudfern. This was an awesome read, I enjoyed seeing the chief having to listen to little Newt, good stuff.

Huh, I was surprised to see Newt in such a (in lack of words) pushy role. Never thought the little guy would command around his chief even when the latter is seriously ill.
But I guess that`s just me underestimating him. So thanks for showing this side of Newt. And it`s great to see Windburn in a weak position and how he deals with it.

Aww, this was so sweet. I really love seeing how Newt has matured - like Windburn, I'm prone to think of him as a young one foremost even though he's rapidly approaching adult age. And somehow the image of Greenweave and Newt breaking into Cloudfern's stores with One-Leg's axe made me laugh! Good to know that Newt has turned into a crafty fellow who can help his chief when he needs it :).

Dhaaaw---that's such a heart warming story. I think Newt's one of my favs......I just love his sweetness and modesty. I'm thinking this goes with the pix of seen of this scene? I really like how you get to see the personality's of both characters. Really lovely. :D

The details of this story (of any of the stories you write) are amazing, and so thorough. I only wish I wrote half as well! My favorite part of this was how little Newt was insistent, and we see a confidence and humility about him. He's not lording his ability, he's simply helping. :) Beautifully written! :) And I like how even Windburn has poorer moments where he, too, needs his tribemates, and healers.
