I read this sweet story with great interest. Flea was portrayed wonderfully here and I loved the glimpses from Copper's childhood and Farscout's time as full-time dad. And the end was wonderfully written. Copper got a brave and loyal bond here!

My intention with this fic was two-fold: first, to do something we hadn't seen before (a wolf-friend changing allegiances), and second, to show snapshots of Farscout's family life during the "Time Jump" period, where he was effectively the stay-at-home dad for Copper. With Flea's relatively passive nature, I couldn't help but see her as falling in love with Copper and want to be Copper's full-time protector. Likewise... wolves aren't like Pern dragons -- a wolf/rider bond isn't a magical moment of Recognition, it's a relationship between elf & wolf which can grow and change.

I love this story. I like seeing what Flea was like toward Copper as she was growing up, and seeing how close Copper was to Flea. I like seeing how she ended up changing riders, it was an inconvenient moment for Farscout, but a really good moment over all.

I really enjoyed how this was constructed as a series of little looks at moments in time, and ordinary slices of wolfrider life and adventures -- like the riding lessons, or the encounter with raccoons and why they're to be taken seriously -- building up to a conclusion that felt so natural. Flea was always a really interesting bond for Farscout, but it never seemed like they were all that well-matched. I think it's cool that instead of Flea adapting to become better-matched to him, she instead found a match that was better-suited to who she is.

Flea has become one of my favorite wolf-friends to read about. She's got so much personality and a story with her in it always drags me in and has me reading without pause!

I really love the twist in this story (not going to give away what it is here -- people are just going to have to go read!). It was totally unexpected, and I think is a different take on what folks see as one of the 'norms' in the lives of EQ elves.

This was so lovely. Whitney I'm always amazed by how tight and lush you make these stories. And Wonderful Co-Writing as well. I couldn't tell apart who was responsible for which part.

I also loved seeing all the events leading up and pointing toward the change of bounds. So, so great and well written. The love from Copper to Flea was almost too much for my poor heart. So touching. I think I liked the nightmare scene the best. Just heartmelting.

I also loved the touch that Brightwood didn't seem so pleased with Flea's decision.

This was absolutely wonderful - loyal Flea obviously found her bond long before anyone else realised where her heart lay. I loved seeing all those different instances of her caring for Copper - and even going into a fight for her! Not what you'd expect from a wolf who first bonded with Farscout because he gave good ear scratches :p.

This was wonderful! I like how you even hinted at Copper's special ability in this. I think the excerpt with Rill and the ringtails was my favorite.
