Well that brings up a good point. What's the protocol for discovery and/or capture? If they keep word hunting, it's only a matter of time (even centuries from now) before their luck runs out.

Ooh, you really had me on the edge of my seat, there! I was wondering just how Beetle WOULDN'T be spotted! O_O I agree, it's an interesting question -- would they be ready? I'm not even sure myself what being ready would mean; what they would do. I do wonder if it will eventually be one of these near misses that doesn't actually miss that final time that means the elves' discovery by these humans?

Tense! Curiosity does get the best of Beetle at times; lucky she wasn't discovered. I'm a little curious myself, about what happened after this. How bad was the mood in the group on the way home, I wonder.

This is really interesting. I like how it brings up a really good question, if they had found out would they have been ready for whatever happened next? Would they know what to do? really good way to bring up a great question. I also really enjoyed seeing Beetle's intense curiosity here, it can just go to show that curiosity isn't always the best of things.

I definitely like this for a look at how the elves are becoming comfortable, in a way, with their targets... and how that sense of comfort may be what leads to overconfidence or carelessness. What strikes me is that it feels a bit like Beetle is subconsciously unconvinced that being discovered would be such a terrible thing -- which perhaps makes sense, for those who have been observing the humans for so long.

For those asking about fallout... please feel free to jump on this and write about it!!! I'm sure there was some! :) Just not sure what it was... :)

Whew, I'm glad nothing serious happened, and Beetle didn't get hurt, either. But yeah, she really was overconfident here - in that regard, it may even have been a good thing, as it reminded them not to test their luck, without serious consequences in itself.
Echoing that I really would like to see possible consequences from this :).

I think this was a very good reflection on something I think a lot of us fall prey to - laxness due to overconfidence! It was great that this ended how it did. I, too am interested in potential ripples as a result from these events.

Whew.. that was indeed close. I love the tension in the end, with Brightwood so annoyed with Beetle. I'm sure Cloudfern would have had a heart attack!
What I also liked is the sense of Beetle growing a little to confident into their hiding skills. This "we are always careful" is something I know from myself when I get to easy on things because I did them so many times before.
ANd yes I agree. I'd like to know if there was anything following this event!

Interesting -- is there any further fallout from this incident? Does she get a further talking-to from One-Leg (he's always so colorful, we could sell tickets!), or is Beetle suspended from the team for a bit? Just curious... would love to know what you think the fallout might be!
