This brought tears to my eyes. The build-up and anticipation of Whitetip's heart giving out had me feeling for Chicory all the way to the end.

Thanks everyone! This story was very strongly influenced by my own experience(s) as a pet owner -- especially since my family has a tendency to adopt senior-rescue pets, I've had to say goodbye to a lot of good friends. It's different every time, and I still miss them. I think a lot of my *own* feelings got reflected here.

What I liked about this was what a quiet and private moment it was for Chicory. And how there is a sense that this is something she has experienced many times before -- but being a wolfrider, each one is also in the Moment of the Now, never to be treated in a jaded way. This wolf-friend's death is still important to her. It was nice to get to see that.

Well done! I think this isn't just really a touching story about an elf losing a wolf friend, but also a great picture of how the Wolfriders accept death. It shows how it is a part of living and how they realize they will outlive their wolf friends. I liked how you ended it, with her celebrating the good moments they had.

That was very touching and sad. I really liked to see how Chicory knows and accepts that her friend is dying as part of the Way instead of railing against it though she still grieved for him - as it should be. The details and the language were very beautiful! Looking forward to more stories from you and Chicory :).

this was a beautiful story. I like the atmospghere and how peaceful and calm it makes the death of a beloved friend. He was just old and that's the Way, yes but no reason not to be sad about it and grief.
Very well done. I really enjoyed this story ..

This is such a sad story, I was really crying at the end... But in the same time, it's wonderful and I like it that it is without any great Drama but a calm farewell to a dear Wolffriend.
A really great story!

Oh, ouch, I knew setting into this that I wouldn't get through it without tearing up. I really love how you captured the gentle, calm aspect of death here. So often we get wrapped up in the frenzy that grief can be that we forget that it can also be a beautiful thing. I am also moved by how you captured the presence of the "Now" of wolf-thought even in death. How lovely is it that the old wolf could close his eyes, ready to run off and chase rabbits when he wakes and simply ease away from life. And how perfect is it that he is right there with his best friend, who sets aside all thoughts of the past and future to mourn him as he deserves.
Well done, well-frickin-done!

Aww. Death is so sad; but it's lovely to see how Chicory handles it with such grace. I like the sense of peace and acceptance that you give, a real sense of the friendship between elf and wolf, and the gulf between knowing, and not knowing.
