Glow is my favourite cub! She's so funny and sweet at the same time. Rainpace's "wordgame" is interesting and I wonder if he pushes it along through all of Glow's childhood.

I love seeing Rainpace as a dad - he seems to really enjoy it! Smart idea, too, to start teaching Glow some human language early. In this case, the earlier the better!

As a speech-language pathologist, I'm way too fascinated by trilingualism and all its consequnces! I won't bore you by going off on a rant here in the comments, so I'll just say that I love the idea of bringing Glow up knowing more than one language, how it's mentioned that the older elves (and perhaps also those less inclined to practise or with less interest in languages) are having more trouble learning than the others. I'm also curious to see if Glow will start code-switching, once she knows enough of the human languages (though with there being no fluent speakers around her, I doubt that would happen).

This is a great idea -- and such a great glimpse of Rainpace in action as a dad!

Rainpace makes such a good, involve Dad -- and he's a good teacher, too! I like how he wants to share this part of what's important to him (and important to the tribe's future) with Glow, and how he has faith in her ability to do it.

Shame on me that I haven`t commented on this one before. ;) It is such a sweet story! I really love the idea of raising kids bilingual... even better when the elves do it, too!
So funny how much attention Glow gives the lessons, at least until she finds an excuse to run off making some noice. :D
And I always appreciate stories that show bits of the everyday life of our tribe.

What an awesome concept to set up for Glow. This is fantastic. I love the little details you included too; the way she drags out the syllables and ends up howling at one point made me smile, it rings very true to what a young child would do. Very cute little snapshot of life!

I'm really glad you hit on this idea, Chris! It's so much easier for young children to learn languages! And it will be even more impressive when/if they meet humans and little Glow learns what all the words, phrases, and lullabies mean!

Aww, that was a very cute little slice of life! I love the idea of raising one of the cubs "bilingual" (or is that trilingual since there are two human tribes?) :). And it's great to see Rainpace be a daddy!
