I'm surprised Foxtail didn't pretend she was sick when she was younger (if she did, forgive me, haven't read all the stories..) It kind of proves that at one point, long ago, she simply gave up on them, her parents. Which is really sad. She hadn't "fought" in so long and was genuinely surprised and thought it was a fever dream when they did take care of her!

Foxtail second guessing her parents' love for her is both sad and understandable. It's bitter that she had to get sick to see a hint of them caring for her; I've gotten the impression that both Whispersilk and Windburn assumes Foxtail simply knows they love her. Tragic, but it makes for interesting reading.

It was really nice to see this family getting along so well, even if only for a little while. Your description of having a cold was spot on as well - I almost got a sympathy headache from reading about how horrible Foxtail was feeling XD

Oh Foxtail, I don't even know what to say to you. I wonder if all this lack of attention is just in your head and they have been kind in their own way to you but you just refuse to notice. Silly Girl. Though, I really do like how you can really see Foxtail's side of things here without blinding the reader to the reality of whats happening. :)

My guess is that there are more of these moments, which are peppered by misunderstandings, than we know of so far... even this moment was almost undermined w/ Foxtail's impression that her parents were happier to have her leaving the den than to see her better - I'm glad it got sorted out this time, but I wonder how many other times misunderstandings got in the way.

Such a sweet story! I agree with the other comments, it really drives home the image that their family was pretty dysfunctional, that Foxtail could be shocked and surprised to have her parents take care of her or welcome her into their den. I love that Windburn gave her the pretty painted cup, too. I'd love to see that pop up in later stories as a reminder of sorts. :)

Aww ... I agree with Mel, this was very touching - even if you don't have problems with your parents I guess everyone can sympathize with wanting your parents when you're sick. It's lovely to see that there were times when things were sort of right between Foxtail and her parents!

I'm glad for this small, quiet look at what a complicated family they were. It helps to show perhaps more than a Big Dramatic Event does what deep problems they had, despite the fact that you can also see the love there.

okay.. this made my eyes watery.. Why? Because I remebere that when I was a kid my father had genious problems to demonstrate his love... but when I was really really sick he was there... doing his best ... and this reminded me on this times I lay down feeling sick but happy at the same.
Very nice Story. It's good to see that Windburn and Whispersilk cared at all. A nice look onto the family, Angie...

This is a nice piece to hold up in contrast to the usual family dynamic we see with these three. Seeing Windburn being fatherly and ministering to his daughter's heath is really sweet and it makes his character feel more well-rounded to me.

Seeing yet another vignette of the might-have-beens between Whispersilk and Foxtail makes me so very sad.

This is a really interesting look at an admittedly complex family dynamic. It's nice to know that even though FT's relationship with her parents wasn't the best, they did have their loving, caring moments, too.
