The tribe is so sensitive and caring towards its members!! I love how Bowflight was genuinely interested in Littlesong/Finch, that it wasn't romantic at all at first. True love. I agree that it is a story about Self-Acceptance. The tribe makes it easy though!!

I really like this story, and this look into Finch - it's so interesting to see this character grow into her new name, and I love how Bowflight and she interact with one another here. It's such a great look into both characters. So sad that both of them are no longer living - you really make a person want to know more about them both!

The new name suits her so perfectly. This story is just so amazing and interesting, a great read.

Wow, Littlesong sure had serious self-esteem issues, didn't she?! I'm so glad that the tribe was there to wrap her up in their love, and help her have a better view of herself. And for a bonus, this is a beautiful romance story, too! The one thing I will say, is that in the telling of the story, I actually forgot by the end that Crackle was actually relaying it -- but not every "an elf tells a story" story *has* to have the writing/telling style match that character. Your own fits it beautifully, and on consideration I actually like it better this way. :) LOL! "Bigjab" -- such a cute cubling presence to lend a certain lighthearted feel weaving through the story! I was surprised about what Bowflight said about her eyes, but once I read that, it made sense in retrospect. I, too, am aggrieved that we don't have Finch around as a current tribemate! Waaaaaah! She's so much fun. I wanna see more about her! :) I also really loved how Easysinger hinted at who had started the whole scheme off, too. ;) To top it all off, you gave it a really adorable, tender, beautiful ending. Well done!

Aw, I loved reading about strong-willed little Finch; the name suits her perfectly :) She and Bowflight make such a good couple, too.

One of the best naming stories I've read in a great long while! I read the part when everyone was all "hello Finch" to my sister and even though she had no idea who the characters were she gave a hearty laugh. Humors and thoughtful and a great way to show the tribe's support!

I think this is up there with one of my favorite stories - sorry for not commenting sooner! The emotions and actions tied into this make it such a compelling read. And I really like how you show this name-change to be something different... and how Littlesong really grows into it! :) Thank you for this look at Finch, and how she fit into Holt life! :)

What a neat story! I especially liked the growing love story between Finch and Bowflight. They just feel right together.

I love this tale. Joan you have such a great talent. I like it that it tells a story of an elf not being all talented. I love the interaction between Finch and Bowflight... I love all about it!
But the most I'm amazed of your writing style!

This story is just filled with great stuff -- a vivid look at a past time in the tribe, and tribemembers who are no longer with it. It creates a wonderful sense of what it was like for those who lived then; it feels very real and complete, as real as today's tribe does. Great job with all of the various characters, making them feel distinctive and their own. Finch is a great invention, here, so well-rounded and flawed as well as strong; and this sells to me like nothing else could the depth of love between her and Bowflight, making them into a Great Romantic Couple.

Aww, that story was lovely! It is great to see how the tribe worked together to discover why Littlesong was unhappy and what they could do to change it. Also, I was happy to see some of Bowflight and what their relationship was like before they recognized (how lucky to recognize your lovemate!). And I really love how it closes the circle with the promise for her to find her place as a huntress :).

Oh, dear oh dear oh dear, what a wonderful tale! I am suddenly and greatly aggrieved that Finch is no longer around with us because she is one of the most fascinating characters we've had. I love how you've removed the 'sudden discovery of hidden talent' kind of tale that we see so often and replaced it with a story about accepting what you are given and learning how to use it. What a wonderful little gal, and how powerful too.

One of my favorite stories yet. Thanks!
