This story was a real challenge to approach, because from Day #1 of the club, Suddendusk & Windsong have been our "happy old marrieds" couple... yet if you read Suddendusk's CIS, up until the point of his Recognition and lifemating, the guy is a COMPLETELY different character from the devoted father/lifemate who we know. And not only is he a completed different guy... he's not even a guy most of us would respect much, and certainly he is NOT a stand-up, dependable fellow I could imagine Windsong as falling in instant love with and pledging a lifetime of devotion to. So the problem here was how to address the huge disconnect between the Suddendusk we know today, and the playboy/prankster/neer-do-well described in his CIS who's the guy Windsong has known her entire life?

I love how this story flows, it was a really nice read. I also really liked the look into Suddendusk and Windsong's past together.

Oh wow, what a wonderful story!!! I loved how you described Windsong here, the two different sides of her: the outer, composed huntress and the inner, lonely child. That`s just wonderful connection to her past and a believable insight into a very interesting character!
And I must admit, tears welled up when I read Suddendusks` "proposal" to her. Beautifully written!!

The flow of this story worked surprisingly well, with all the twists and turns it had. I like how while Windsong turned Suddendusk down so quickly, you still managed to make it believable that she changed her mind not so long after.

I think my favorite thing here is how deftly and well you manage all the instances of mood whiplash here, all the surprises both pleasant and unpleasant. The story just moves with perfect smoothness from funny to uplifting to sad to hopeful, with all the feelings in it ringing true, delivering profound and spot-on characterization of Suddendusk and Windsong. Plus of course, it's fascinating to see the rocky beginnings of a couple that at least used to be so obviously and strongly bonded - it shows the individuality of them both, rather than taking the pairing for granted. It's excellent to have this story in both their histories!

Ayooah! I love it! I'm a total Recognition softie, but I think everyone knows that by now. ;) This story is magnificent, showing all sides of Recognition -- from Suddendusk's romantic views on it, to Windsong's more practical thoughts, and round full circle to a satisfying romantic happy ending. I don't think I've seen a Recognition-thunderstorm I've enjoyed this much since canon EQ. :)

Good one. I like how at the start Suddendusk is still trying to hang on to his role as the best prankster while he's clearly not anymore (and gets totally pwned by Notch.) And then Recognition strikes... and I totally relate to the Suddendusk's mistaken assumptions about what's going to happen next, and his determination to prove himself once he realizes it isn't just going to be easy. This is a well-written turning point in Suddendusk's life.

It's such a beautiful story! I really hope someone takes on the story of exactly *what* Suddendusk did to win Windsong's heart.

And I agree... poor, sweet, patient, giving Thornbow.

Congratulations on wrestling this story to the ground! I think it came out great -- it's a really lively look at who both Suddendusk and Windsong were just BEFORE they started becoming the pair we know today. Great action, too, as always! I know how hard it can be to come up with a New and Different Recognition Scenario, and this one is fantastic.

That was great.
Whinteny you have such a good feeling for characters and timing. This is so lovely and I love the interaction between Windsong and Suddendusk here. It's so taking that not everything went well. Suddendusk is so sweet in a way but I understand that Windsong probably feels a bit overwhelemed at first.
I really like to see the look on both and it's so cute to think that they grew so close. All the interacting and the relationships going on in the prestent and the past.... gerat.
And Poor Thornbow. Like his sister he seems to have not so much luck in love... It's interesting that While Honey lost her Recognized at his lovemate and Thornbow his lovemate on her Recognized...

At last, the story of how the devil-may-care trickster transformed into the perennial Daddy and how the asture huntress fell for the lovable bloke in the first place! This story made me love the pair even more, if that's possible. I love your style, as always Whit, especially the timing of this drastic event. Imagine uncovering the soul of another in the midst of a prank gone wrong! A wonderful break from the usual Recognition litany.

I guess I just love how real everyone feels here. Aside from the pointy ears this really could be a story about anyone when love and children are thrown into the mix. I especailly love your inclusion on Thornbow. Poor guy, he takes being the perpetual third wheel so well, I can't wait to see him win one one of these days.

All in all, a better story than I could even have imagined. Thanks!
