Woah, those pranks back then were a lot meaner than the pranks we see nowadays from our elves, old and new prankster alike. Notch definitely has a mean, vengeful streak.
I really liked the interaction between Rainpace and Notch here. No other story ever showed their former relationship so well. And I must admit I also was a bit proud of Rainpace here, seeing what measures he used to put some sense into his friend. ;)
And one of the details I liked most: crunchy mouse snacks!! Haha!

It was nice to see Notch's reasoning behind his extreme pranks, even if he never directly admitted said reasoning. Great story of a new name being made, and I thought Silvermane's comment of "best prank yet" was a nice touch; showing her as more than a snarling wolf-elf.

You would think Notch would learn not to mess with Quick Fang after she _permanently disfigures him_ (!!), but it seems like he's hardly fazed by it??? I think Linda said it best in the comments - now that is one die-hard prankster!

I'd planned for two or three years to write this story where Notch earned his name by getting "notched" by Quick Fang. Notch is just one of my favorite characters EVER -- I love how irrepressible he is, and how he doesn't have a noble bone in his body.

Definitely a pleasure to watch Notch in action, and to learn more about both him and Quick Fang. I sincerely appreciated Rainpace's voice of reason here, and thought you did a great job weaving in how steady he can be.

Ha! Great job bringing this story to life at long last! I really liked the dark undercurrent to Coyote's desire to play his prank, and that even in defeat, he's irrepressible! But I also liked that Silvermane came across so formidably here -- I can see why she'd be an irresistible target for Coyote, but a dangerous one, and I really liked that she managed to perform her signature bite even from that supposedly-vulnerable position.

Whoah, Notch never learns, eh? I loved seeing fleshed out what was only mentioned in his CIS - and it's really great to see how much dedication and work he puts into his pranks! And I loved his strong family sense showing, that he only gets back at Quick Fang for hurting his mother (though I'm sure Starskimmer really has all but forgotten about it!).

But it's great to see Rainpace as the voice of reason and sensibility, too =).

I was eager to read what Notch did to get his name XD This was very enjoyable to read and I love Notch's inability to learn. He's really a handful but so much fun. Through I liked that he even had a little reason and how it comes through again an again that he loves and in his way protects his family.

But I like Rainpace here as well. He truly lives up as the level-headed voice of sanity here. Also like how proud Silvermane/Quickfang went off. It gives her so much personalty.

Just a cool story!

Unbelievable!! Coyote's missing a chunk from his ear and he's immediately plotting his revenge already?! THat's some die hard prankster, ha ha. I really enjoyed reading this -- we all know why Notch was called Notch, but having it worked out in a story is lovely. I wish I could say Notch learned his lesson, but alas.. :P
