This is just gorgeous and so full of emotions! I look at it everytime I need inspiration to write about Moonwing (I _will_ finish that story before summer is out!). The best part about it, I think, is the colors and the expressions in the second panel - Newt looks so excited and Cloudfern looks both proud and sad. Just beautiful!

Oh man. Thanks everyone ^^
This was one of those pictures that came like a lightning bolt to me. I asked Sofia what she wanted for her trade and she said she'd like to see something with Cloudfern, Newt and Moonwing and BOOM I had the idea for this. The sketch I did pretty quickly just the rest needed some time.
I'm glad you guys like the den-trees. ^^^I gathered references from all over the gallery but mostly picked up on Rachel's first picture and some of Holly's art, where I also saw the colorful den-flaps at first. (I think it was the illustration for "Growing upwards"? The decision to match them with the season was a ... aesthetic one but in the end I think it makes sense to match the flaps to the outside a bit. ^^

Last but not least.. thanks again to Maggie who was so kind to help me figure out a nice layout. I feel a bit guilty that I couldn't add the leaves you suggested but O kinda couldn't work them in. Though. Thanks a whole lot for your time!

This really is a huge WOW, Mel. :)

I love your decision to tell the story via the two "panels", and I agree, this way of putting them against the woody background makes them feel fresh and different -- as if they are two windows on the scene that we are peeking in.

I really like how you emphasized the different time periods by highlighting the seasons, not just in the appearance of the outside but in the clothing choices. And even in the color choices of the hangings that shield the den doors! Great way to pick up on that detail, and give it a new spin that I hadn't considered before. :)

My favorite part, though, honestly, is how vibrant and bright the glow of Cloudfern's magic is. That isn't an easy effect to achieve, but you did a great job, and it really looks glowy and, well, magical!

I can only agree with Mira XD I loved the original sketch, but this version is amazing! I love how concentrated Cloudfern looks while using his magic in the first panel, and Newt is just waiting patiently. But what I also really like about this panel, is a little insight in how the Dentrees look! Those den-flaps, the stairs leading up to each and every one of them... yay for more references!

And then the second panel. Newt looks so confident here, with Moonwing on his arm. And I LOVE how Newt's winter colors match Moonwing's feathers! That is an amazing match :D I also like how peaceful Cloudfern looks, as if he's finishing things up. What a great piece, Mel! I think this is one of my favorites from now on :D

Oh my GOD! Mel, you godess of art!!! its finished. I saw it inked and it was great, but no in colors, its simply AMAZING!!!! OO and I adore the idea of the "two wholes in a treestump"-look! and the colors are so... smooth...? soft? gentle? don't know the right word here, but there is such a timeless aura of peace and a silent joy in it. WOW. a big big WOW
